Steps

Collect all the necessary ingredients. Set the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).

Season the chicken generously inside and out with onion powder, salt, and pepper. Place the chicken in a roasting pan, and put 3 tablespoons of butter in the cavity. Arrange the remaining butter in dollops on the outside of the chicken.

Cut celery into 3 or 4 pieces and place them in the chicken cavity.

Bake the chicken in the preheated oven without a cover until it is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, which should take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone, and it should read 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).
